We’re delighted to share that Raab & Böhm has joined the Academy Second Modernism to drive structural change in the music sector - for a music theatre and concert practice that is global, diverse and for the many.
Together with the more than 50 institutions involved in the founding of the Academy Second Modernism in Vienna in June 2024, they form a powerful global network. The aim is to increase the proportion of works by female composers in concert and opera programmes worldwide and to make the field much more diverse overall. The strength of the alliance lies in its breadth: from female composers to festivals, universities, a large artists' agency, orchestras and major concert halls, everyone involved is represented.
Despite over a hundred years of modernism, the proportion of works by female composers performed by orchestras worldwide today is only 8%. 5.5% of these are white. 0.66% of works are by female composers from Asia; 0.31% by female composers of mixed origin; 0.05% by female composers from the Middle East; 0.09% by female composers of indigenous origin.
