Vitali Alekseenok to become Principal Conductor of Deutsche Oper am Rhein from 2024/25

Vitali Alekseenok will become Principal Conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg from the 2024/25 season. He succeeds GMD Axel Kober, who won‘t – after 15 years as GMD of Deutsche Oper am Rhein – prolong his contract beyond Summer 2024.

Alekseenok has been Kapellmeister at Deutsche Oper am Rhein since the 2022/23 season, and in this short time he has enthralled the house and its two orchestras to an exceptional degree. Now this gifted young conductor will be entrusted with a highly responsible position into which he can grow gradually.

From August 2023 he will work closely with Axel Kober as the 1st Kapellmeister and deputy GMD, before becoming head of music as Principal Conductor for three years from August 2024.

Following his outstanding performances of the new ballet production of Sacre and the revivals of Turandot, Hänsel und Gretel and Die Zauberflöte in the current season, Vitali Alekseenok will conduct the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's Septembersonate and the new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin in the upcoming season, as well as the ballet production of Surrogate Cities by Demis Volpi to a composition by Heiner Goebbels.

He will also be seen at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and the Barbican Center London, among others.
