The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performs three concerts at the Elbphilharmonie as part of the Festival “Britain Calling” with its Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. The residency of the CBSO at the Elbphilharmonie takes place between October 6 and 10 and has its focus on English composers of the 20th century.
The Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, consisting of members of the orchestra, presents the opening concert, which is followed by CBSO concerts with the young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Thea Musgrave’s new trumpet concerto celebrates its German premiere with the outstanding trumpeter Alison Balsom.
In addition, the CBSO will also be joined by its own choir, the CBSO Chorus, for Michael Tippet's monumental work A Child of Our Time.
