Julia Hagen is the winner of the 2024 Credit Suisse Young Artist Award, the jury chaired by Michael Haefliger, Executive and Artistic Director of the Lucerne Festival, announced after yesterday’s final at the Wiener Musikverein. The prize is awarded for the twelfth time and is endowed with CHF 75,000 as well as a concert with the Wiener Philharmoniker, which will take place at the KKL Lucerne on 7 September 2024 under the direction of Christian Thielemann.
Naturalness and warmth, vitality and the courage to take risks: These qualities are often used to describe Julia Hagen’s playing. Highlights of the 2023/24 season include her debut with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, a European tour with the Dresden Philharmonie under Krzysztof Urbański and a tour of Switzerland with the Wiener Symphoniker under Petr Popelka. She also returns to the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
Amongst her chamber music activities, her trio concerts with Igor Levit and Renaud Capuçon at the Schubertiade, London’s Wigmore Hall and Wiener Musikverein and performances at the Salzburger Festspiele are particularly worth mentioning. Additionally, the 2023/24 sees performances with Anneleen Lenaerts, Mao Fujita, Lukas Sternath, Nikolai Lugansky and Sir András Schiff.
